At the 6th International Barcelona Conference on Higher Education, Martha presented PRIA’s Campaign to End Female Foeticide which was conducted in Haryana, India. The campaign brought together local communities, elected representatives, members of local governance institutions and government officials in order to raise awareness on the issue. |

Empowering Rural Women to Strengthen Their Leadership Capacity At Shantou University, China, Martha presented the role of PRIA in empowering rural women to take on leadership positions in the community and in local governance institutions. Martha strongly believed that unless rural women learn to become leaders, they will not feel empowered to demand and lead the demand for their rights in society. |

Seminar on Sexual Harassment at the Workplace Martha was instrumental in setting up PRIA’s Committee for Prevention of Sexual Harassment, and conducted regular trainings within the organization to sensitize all employees, particularly those who have recently joined PRIA, on the issue. |

Training on Gender and Workplace This training was conducted in Gram Vikas in October 2014. Martha has conducted many such trainings on sensitizing private, governmental and non-governmental organizations on the need for gender sensistive work environments. |

Understanding Sexual Harassment at the Workplace On the occasion of International Women’s Day in 2015, Martha made a presentation at the V.V. Giri National Labour Institute with the purpose of raising awareness on the issue of sexual harassment and, in particular, the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013. |

Violence Against Women is one of the most widespread violation of human rights across the world. Over the past couple of years, Martha worked tirelessly to raise the issue, implementing innovative change models (working with young boys and girls, community elders, governance institutions) in rural and urban areas of India. |

Martha led a study on Women’s Leadership in Local Governance in India. This presentation highlights the findings of the study and the wide gap between stated policies of the government and the reality on the ground. |

Women’s Leadership and Political Empowerment At the international conference on Citizen Leadership and Democratic Accountability held in New Delhi in December 2011, Martha presented PRIA’s pioneering work in promoting the leadership of women in politics at the local level (panchayati raj institutions and urban local bodies). |

Martha was invited to make this presentation to the CIVICUS World Assembly in September 2012. Even though there are more than a million women elected representatives in institutions of local governance in India, they face enormous constraints in being able to fulfil their roles. The learning programs which Martha conducted aimed at building self-confidence among women and shared knowledge and information to help them work in male-dominated work environments. |
