IDP(Module-1)

Introduction To Integrated District Planning

The centralised planning system, in India, is structured with a powerful centre and is under the aegis of the Planning Commission. Participatory planning does not imply merely decentralizing such planning, but also bringing people concerned into the forefront of these processes.

The main objectives of this Module are to:

  • Build knowledge on the various approaches to planning
  • Understand the pros and cons of both centralised and decentralised planning

The fall of previous regimes of centralised planning now makes the issue of participatory decentralised planning an urgent one. Through this Module, you will learn the extent to which centralised planning is occurring in the rest of the world. A box in the end will provide an informative example on how the localising of Millennium Development Goals benefitted Pasay City in the Philippines, which involved the active participation of individuals to contribute towards human development of their country.
