Unit 2: Designing Participatory Training

Unit 2 deals with the most critical, but more often neglected, aspect of participatory training: its design. The unit outlines the importance of the training design in the context of the overall strategy to empower citizens and promote social change. Each stage in the design process, from assessing learner needs and defining learner objectives, to defining content and methods, and putting the whole process into a workable time frame, will be addressed. The importance of keeping the learner’s needs and overall strategic objective of the training in mind during every stage of the design process is emphasised throughout the Unit as a key principle of participatory training design.
