PTM (Unit -1 )

Unit 1: Participatory Training Methodology

Unit 1 provides a theoretical introduction to the concept of participatory training. Tracking its emergence as an alternative approach to conventional training methods, it analyses the normative orientation as fundamental to understanding the methodology it employs. This value premise endows it with a certain bias towards empowering the poor and marginalised in society, which aims to unleash their critical thinking processes. The principles of adult learning and the learning environment are also addressed, alongside the critical role of the trainer.
Upon completion of this unit, you will have developed:

  • Conceptual clarity on participatory training and its significance in social change
  • An understanding of the principles of adult learning and the importance of a good learning environment
  • An understanding of the essential characteristics of trainers, and their role and responsibilities
