Building Blocks of Social Accountability: Key Factors for Success

Social accountability in practice today is a quickly-growing field, with an ever-wider range of tools falling under the rubric of “social accountability.” For this reason, it is important to reflect upon what, if any, elements are common to most social accountability approaches. Identifying the core elements that make such programs successful will ensure that practitioners keep these elements intact when designing and tailoring existing methodologies to particular country or regional contexts.

The "building blocks" of social accountability, or the several core elements that are common to most social accountability approaches, are as follows:

  • Engaging in a process of negotiation for change
