Implementation and impact of participatory budgeting

Implementation and impact of participatory budgeting

We will use this next set of learning materials to learn more about the “how-to” of participatory budgeting, covering both implementation steps and impact of this social accountability tool. We’ll look at the preconditions for implementation, building blocks of the tool, and look at a sample PB process diagram.

We’ll then ask you to begin to think about applying this tool in your local context, considering process steps, techniques for maximum inclusion, and about what potential impacts the successful implementation of participatory budgeting could have.

Learning objectives By the end of this module you will:

Explain how PB is implemented in general terms
Summarize the different components of a model PB cycle, including the different PB councils and committees that may have to be created
Analyze the enabling environment for a successful PB process
List several case studies of communities that successfully established PB and describe the major results they achieved
