PEM (Module 4)
How to use the Data
The last Module of the course provides an overview of the major challenges, as well as the positive outcomes of implementing community-led enumeration and mapping. Its major objective is:
- To explore immediate and long term possibilities that emerge as outputs and outcomes of the data collection process
Participatory enumeration and mapping promotes better networks of communication among the people of an informal settlement. It also uncovers the leadership qualities in people who have not been given the opportunity to empowerment and self-entitlement. However, as community surveys might face violent oppositions from the government and from the people themselves, it is essential to build awareness amongst the community and officials before initiating such processes.
The case studies from Uganda and Mumbai complement the argument for promoting participatory enumeration and mapping.
