Read on the question and share your views after clicking at reply. This will help us to understand different thoughts and perspectives about the question and enrich our learning. For this to happen, all of us have the responsibility for each other's learning and candidly respond to the question. Please note no answer is correct or wrong. We also do not judge you in knowledge of English. It is your view and we all respect it and derive common learning from it.

Now the question:

Why do you feel that participatory training is needed for enhance understanding in adults?

participatory training is needed to enhance the understanding in the  the adults for the following reasons.

For significant learning to occur learner must be actively involved in the learning process and participatory Training provides the opportunity for the same.By learning thro the participatory training level of information retained is greater and it provides individual with the opportunity to learn cognitively. participatory training provides the learning thro the experience ,it is not just the experience itself but also Reflection and development of new ideas that occur by experience and its also learner centered education.

participatory training stimulates independent thought and creativity.

Participatory methodology provides the learning thro experience; it is not just the experience but also the reflection and development of new ideas that occur by experience and it is learner centered education.

According what I've learnt in this course, participatory training places the learner’s needs at the centre of the training and draws largely from the principles of adult learning. The principles of participatory training are rooted in the belief that adults learn in different ways and under different conditions to children and adolescents. Adults come to a learning situation with a rich storehouse of past experiences. These past experiences influence how they perceive themselves, how they expect and interpret new experiences and how they learn. Adults learn autonomously and only acquire what is of interest and relevance to them. The past experiences influences what adults perceive to be relevant to their learning.

Like Dr. Kumar V.L.S mentioned above, for effective learning to happen, learners should be encouraged to participate as fully in the learning process as possible. Participatory training believes that sharing experiences within the learning environment not only gives value to these experiences, and thus to the adult learners and encourages their participation, but also creates a readiness for new learning. Using past or present experiences to gain a deeper understanding of their reality also prepares adult learners to encounter fresh experiences, and thus constitutes a more effective form of learning. Thus adult experiential learning is a methodological focus of participatory training.

Thanks,
Sarah

We need to take into consideration state of mind of the adults. They have experience of life, their ideas and opinions. Though the topic that we like to discuss might be a new but they can easily relate with their experience and understand and internalise it quickly. But this can happen only and only if they and their knowledge have been given due importance and space to participate in the learning process. Participatory training creates a conducive environment for adults for learning by facilitating sharing of experiences, and discussions. In the process their beliefs and understandings are challenged and new beliefs and understandings are developed. In short, participatory training puts adults in a situation that accelerates the learning process of adults enhancing their understanding about the subject.

In my opinion, Participatory Training is needed for enhance understanding in adults for several reasons:

1. Our General Presumption

As we have learned through the course, we usually hold the belief that the people coming for the training have no prior knowledge and our job is to transfer knowledge to them. It might be true if we are training a group of very young children, but it becomes unreasonable when we are facing the adults, who have received some education and gained some experiences. A traditional way of training would not serve the best interest of this group of people.

2. Their Experience

As mentioned above, adults have gained experiences and knowledge through different aspects of their lives, such as working, social networking, and education. The school of Participatory Training reminds us that we cannot ignore this valuable piece of their capitals. If we take their living experiences into account when designing our training, we not only will not waste time and energy in designing unnecessary topics, but also can make the best out of our training and increase the effectiveness of the training, since the participants are interested in the topics, and willing to apply these in their daily living, the ultimate goal of every training.

3. Their background

The fact that adults have different experiences means that they have varieties of background. Therefore, an "one size fits all" approach is definitely not suitable in this context. Therefore, Participatory Training can help us to cater their heterogeneous needs in the way of assessment and training design.
