Traditional approaches to training looked at it as a uni-linear process where the expertise was seen as being transferred from the trainer to the trainee. But with the advent of participatory training, many of these assumptions were questioned. The process of training now becomes one where there is an exchange of knowledge and the trainer becomes a facilitator in the process. Participatory training borrows heavily from participatory methodologies used in adult education.
