Unit 3: A Planning Programmes And Working With The Community

This Unit proceeds further to cover the functioning of NGOs under various aspects of programme planning and monitoring of development interventions. As NGOs are known to work for and with the community, this Unit focusses attention on people’s participation in all stages of programme implementation – from envisioning a programme’s mission and strategy, programme planning, to monitoring and evaluation of programmes. It provides an overview of the various aspects of community mobilisation and participation, and of formulating joint plans so that the solutions offered are sustainable.
After completing this Unit you will be familiar with:

  • The concept of project planning
  • Key features of programme/project development
  • Various aspects of working with the community, such as community mobilisation, participation and empowerment
  • Other organisational requirements such as monitoring, evaluation and documentation of programmes
