Unit 4: Experiential Training Methods

This Unit introduces experiential learning methods. As participatory training places great emphasis on validating learners’ past experiences as an authentic source of knowledge, these methods contribute to helping the training achieve its normative objectives. The Unit discusses the relevance of the Experiential Learning Cycle in enabling these methods to become ‘structured experiences’. The Unit also introduces the various experiential learning methods, and aims to develop the learner’s practical knowledge of how and when to apply these methods.
Upon completion of this unit, you will understand:

  • The concept of structured experiences
  • The importance of the Experiential Learning Cycle
  • Various methods used in experiential learning, their procedure, and relative advantages and disadvantages
